Biography

A native of France, Paul Fenouillet has published poetry in francophone literary reviews and anthologies, as well as a collection of poems entitled Sans aveu under the pen name Paul Fenoult (Lyon, France: ACD Collection de poésie, 2005). He translated poetry by Rose-Céleste Vien with Robert DeMaria, Jr. in Johnsonian News Letter, and he is currently completing a translation of George Sand's 1839 play, Gabriel, with Kathleen Hart. His article on the French subversive press: “1958-2008: Presse subversive et art de la transgression sous la Vème République” recently appeared in Contemporary French & Francophone Studies (12.2, 2008). Before coming to Vassar, he taught French at the University of Pennsylvania from 1984 to 1993, and he continues teaching for Penn’s summer abroad program at the University of Tours, France. His teaching interests include translation, composition, European integration, contemporary French media, culture, literature and music.
